Challenge Tomorrow — the Bradbury Science Museum’s traveling STEM experience — had a successful public premiere at Los Alamos ScienceFest’s Discovery Day on July 16. In an energetic and excited atmosphere, visitors of all ages experienced hands-on activities demonstrating the different types of science happening at the Lab.
Challenge Ambassadors from the Lab, wearing distinct purple shirts, were on hand to help curious visitors make discoveries of their own in the Mission Ops- and Discovery-themed trailers. Labbies enjoyed the opportunity to show their families what they do at work, and introduce new people to the work of the Laboratory.
Local pueblo-owned small business part of new Laboratory protective services subcontract
Northern New Mexico Integrated Security LLC (N2MIS) was recently awarded a five-year contract to provide security services to Triad LLC, which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory. N2MIS is a joint venture between the incumbent, Centerra Group LLC and Tsay Construction and Services LLC, which is a member of the Triad Pueblo Business Alliance.
“Triad is committed to developing business opportunities and close working relationships with our local pueblo corporation,” said Kelly Beierschmitt, deputy director for Operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory. “We welcome opportunities to engage the local workforce as we seek to fulfill our vital national security mission.”
The joint venture combines a highly experienced and qualified integrated team. It aligns critical skill sets with the best organizational fit, maximizes the reach-back capabilities of both companies, and provides additional economic opportunities for Native Americans that are consistent with U.S. government’s goals to support the Laboratory’s expanding mission through local recruitment. N2MIS will begin providing services on Oct. 1, 2022. The contract is for a five-year base period with two option years.
LANL Foundation and Wildflower International launch new STEM scholarship fund
The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation and Laboratory subcontractor Wildflower International have partnered to create the new Dell Technologies/Wildflower International Endowed Scholarship Fund. Established by a $100,000 gift from Wildflower International with support from Dell Technologies, the fund will provide educational scholarships for Northern New Mexico high school seniors and undergraduates pursuing studies in computer science and other technology-based disciplines. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Los Alamos Employee Scholarship Fund (LAESF) Advisory Committee and approved by the LANL Foundation Board of Directors.
