The Employee Training Academy will be housed in this recently refurbished facility in downtown Los Alamos at 195 East Road. Inside, new and current employees will complete coursework in Fissionable Materials Handling and Glovebox Operations. No actual radiological work will be carried out here.

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., May 6, 2021-Beginning May 17, 2021, a group of employees will move in to a 49,000-square-foot facility in downtown Los Alamos. Once COVID restrictions are lifted and the first level of the building remodel is complete, the new Employee Training Academy housed there will accommodate more than 120 employees and a variety of hands-on training and qualification spaces.

“The East Road building is a smart choice for the Laboratory as we expand our mission and require more modern training facilities,” said Laboratory Director Thom Mason.

With Los Alamos County in Turquoise and Governor Lujan-Grisham planning for New Mexico to re-open in late June, Los Alamos residents are wondering how the Laboratory’s presence downtown will look post-pandemic. The former Community Partnerships Office on Central Avenue will continue to be leased by the Laboratory post-COVID, housing Communications Arts & Services (CAS). Central Park Square has undergone a significant remodel and has been transformed into a high-density telecommuting hub for our business services organizations. The Bradbury Science Museum, 1350 Central Avenue, is in the process of revitalizing exhibits and remodeling office space in preparation for a potential early-summer reopening.

The building at 195 East Road is only partially remodeled and is expected to be completely open in winter, 2021.
