After years of work involving over a hundred Laboratory employees and partners, a completely updated exhibit opens at the Bradbury Science Museum Sept. 30 exploring the Lab’s key national security mission: stewarding the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile and nuclear deterrence.
A public opening reception including remarks from museum and Laboratory leaders takes place on Sept. 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p. m. at the Bradbury Science Museum.
The Laboratory’s historic involvement in the Manhattan Project has received a lot of attention recently, but the new exhibit brings that legacy up to date by showing how the Lab’s supercomputers and other cutting-edge capabilities keep the stockpile safe, secure and reliable—and its importance to national and global security.
It covers four main areas, each with interactive hands-on activities:
- Nuclear deterrence
- The science of stockpile stewardship
- The story of plutonium
- A new video in the theater on how the nuclear weapons mission supports other science research at the Laboratory
Come and see the exhibit and help us celebrate its opening. Look for a more detailed exploration of the exhibit next month.
