Laboratory employees working in nuclear stockpile stewardship and global security are closing out 2021 with modern, efficient office and parking space thanks to new structures revealed at December ribbon cuttings.
“Our employees are committed to excellent work in science and our national security mission,” said Thom Mason, Laboratory director. “The Lab’s leadership is equally committed to making Lab facilities easy and convenient for employees.”
The new, three-story Pecos Parking Garage will bring relief to employees working in and around the busy TA-55 area. It offers 450 spaces plus a new parking guidance system, called ParkIT wherein digital signs display a perpetually updated read-out of the current number of available spaces on each level. Additionally, the ParkIT mobile app is available for the Laboratory’s iOS devices.
“I just took a little tour of this beautiful Ivy Castle Building, and it is fantastic! With 66 offices, not to mention the cleanest break rooms I've ever seen, the employees who work here are going to love it,” said Ted Wyka, manager of the National Nuclear Security Administration Los Alamos Field Office.
The Pecos Parking Garage is the second new garage built this year. Together, the new Pecos Parking Garage at TA-50 and the Otowi Parking Garage at TA-03 have added about 900 parking spaces to the Lab’s campus. Each garage features nine charging stations for electric vehicles.
The Ivy Castle Building was completed in November, under budget. Employees are expected to move in January 2022.
“All of this represents a tremendous team effort,” said Kathye Segala, associate Laboratory director for Capital Projects.
