8 awards go to Los Alamos National Lab for employer excellence

In 2024, Los Alamos National Laboratory received eight diversity- or employment-related awards.

“While improving our workplace culture and standards is ongoing, the recognition we received this year is a reflection of many contributors’ unwavering commitment to fostering a healthy and positive work culture for all employees,” said Acting Diversity Officer Katherine Haight. “We love seeing the breadth of groups and organizations that credit the Lab for being supportive of a diverse and celebrated work culture.”

Award criteria

While each award has its own criteria, general qualification for exemplary employer or diversity awards includes meeting or exceeding several measures – such as, increasing minority workforce and leadership representation, increasing the veteran population, supporting working women and families through family-friendly policies, demonstrating a commitment to work-life balance and showing overall support for diversity, equality and inclusion.

These awards were received by or applied for by the Human Resources’ Diversity Office.

2024 awards

The Lab received the following awards between January and November 2024:

1. Top 20 Government Employers of Choice on the January 2024 Readers’ Choice list of the CAREERS & the disABLED magazine, Equal Opportunity Publications Inc. The Lab was ranked seventh and is the highest-ranking national laboratory.
2. Top 20 Government Employers of Choice on the March 2024 Readers’ Choice list of the Minority Engineer magazine, Equal Opportunity Publications Inc. The Lab was ranked seventh and is the highest-ranking national laboratory.
3. Top 20 Government Employer of Choice in the March 2024 Equal Opportunity Magazine, Equal Opportunity Publications Inc. The Lab was ranked 11 (up from 13 in 2023).
4. Top 20 Government Employers of Choice on the April 2024 Women Engineer Magazine, Equal Opportunity Publications Inc. The Lab was ranked eighth (up from 14 in 2023).
5. Top 20 Government Employers of Choice in the August 2024 STEM Workforce Diversity Magazine, Equal Opportunity Publications Inc. The Lab was ranked 12 (up from 16 in 2023).
6. 50 Best Companies for Latinas in the October 2024 Latina STYLE Magazine. The Lab was ranked 30 (down from 27 in 2023).
7. Top Government Agency in the November 2024 DiversityComm Magazine. This is the first time this publication has recognized the Lab.
8. Top Veteran-Friendly Government Agency in the November 2024 U.S. Veterans Magazine. This is the first time this publication has recognized the Lab.
