New leader of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Environment, Safety, Health and Quality organization named

Steven Coleman brings over 30 years of environment, safety and health experience to critical Lab role

Steven Coleman has been selected as Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Associate Laboratory Director for Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q). He will be responsible for the leadership, management, oversight, strategic planning and execution of the Laboratory’s ESH&Q portfolio.

With a Laboratory-wide focus, ESH&Q provides expertise in environmental protection and stewardship, radiation protection, industrial hygiene and waste management. The organization’s mission-enabling services protect people, resources and the environment.

Coleman has 36 years of professional experience in multiple roles related to environment, safety and health, including serving as the associate laboratory director for that program at Brookhaven National Laboratory for the past five years. He started his career as a Nuclear Electrical Operator in the U.S. Navy and has substantial experience in facilities and waste operations management. Coleman was also an oversight assessor as well as a Radiological Control Division manager.

He holds a doctorate in management in organizational leadership and a master’s in project and energy management.

Coleman will begin his new position at Los Alamos on Nov. 14.
